NC Pre-K
The Division of Child Development supports pre-kindergarten programs throughout North Carolina, in public schools and licensed child care centers. DCD romotes high-quality early childhood educational opportunities that children need in order to be ready for school success.

North Carolina Healthy Start Foundation
To further their efforts in infant mortality reduction, as well as improve the health of women and children statewide, Foundation activities are concentrated in five distinct areas: community grants, public education campaigns, materials development and distribution, technical assistance and advocacy.

Child Care Aware
A program of the National Association of Child Care Resource & Referral Agencies (NACCRRA), Child Care Aware helps families learn more about the elements of high-quality child care and how to locate programs in their communities. Child Care Aware also provides child care providers with access to resources for their child care programs.

American Academy of Pediatrics
An organization of 60,000 pediatricians committed to the attainment of optimal physical, mental, and social health and well-being for all infants, children, adolescents, and young adults.

National Association for the Education of Young Children
Dedicated to improving the well-being of all young children, with particular focus on the quality of educational and development services for all children from birth through age eight.

U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission is charged with protecting the public from unreasonable risks of serious injury or death from thousands of types of consumer products under the agency’s jurisdiction.

Born Learning
Born Learning is a public engagement campaign that helps parents, grandparents and caregivers explore ways to turn everyday moments into fun learning opportunities.

Albemarle Hopeline

This agency serves victims of family violence, sexual assault and teen dating violence in Camden, Chowan, Currituck, Gates, Perquimans and Pasquotank counties. Hopeline offers free individual and group counseling and emergency shelter, a 24-hour crisis counseling telephone line and educational programs, courtroom advocacy and volunteer training. The Salvation Army

The Salvation Army provides food and clothing to families and individuals in need, and some assistance with utility bills. After a fire or other catastrophe, the Salvation Army provides clothing and furniture. In addition, the Salvation Army hosts an Angel Tree Christmas program which provides gifts for children from families in need. Effective Black Parenting Program

The Effective Black Parenting program is a skill building program developed for African-American parents. Parents As Teachers

Parents As Teachers - Knotts Island

Parents as Teachers is a free, in-home program for expectant mothers and parents of young children from birth to kindergarten. The program is offered in Knotts Island in Currituck through the Currituck County Schools. Families who enroll in the program receive monthly or twice monthly visits from a trained parent educator. During these visits parents are given information about child development and engage in activities appropriate to their child. Parents and children are also offered multiple opportunities to learn together in group meetings and playgroups.

Camden County Heritage Museum

Dismal Swamp Canal Trail and Visitor’s Center

The trail begins near the Dismal Swamp Canal Welcome Center off U.S. 17. Asphalt trail through wooded area between canal and N.C. 17. The Visitor’s Center has a boardwalk, boat slips, picnic tables, rest rooms, a gift shop, and information about the region and educational displays.

Dismal Swamp State Park

The Dismal Swamp State Park and Visitor’s Center is a state park with exhibits, a boardwalk that allows visitors to get a feel for the swamp without having to get off the beaten path and the platform allows a group to gather, look, listen and learn together. Park staff offer regularly scheduled interpretive programs for groups or classes, whether at the park or outreach. The park has hiking and biking trails, bike rentals for visitors to enjoy nature, and canoe/kayak rentals for those visitors who want to enjoy the canal.

Family Support Network of Northeastern North Carolina

For support following a diagnosis of a child’s disability, contact the Family Support Network (FSN) of Northeastern NC The network offers programs and resources to help parents navigate the maze of referrals, evaluations, Individual Education Plans (I.E.P.) and special circumstances that become part of the daily routine for families of a child with special needs. The Parent to Parent Support Program offers families who have just learned their child has a special need an opportunity to talk one-on-one with a parent who has a child with a similar disability. Parent to Parent Support is available for families of children with special needs who would benefit from support from someone who has been there.

Partnerships for Inclusion (PFI) is a statewide technical assistance project with offices in the western, central, and eastern regions of North Carolina.
